Lary Selavka was born in Windham Center, CT on February 7, 1930. He graduated from Windham High
School, received a Bachelor of Science degree from Willimantic State Teachers' College (now Eastern Conn. State
University), and a Master of Science degree from the University of Connecticut. After college, he served in Korea
as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, was wounded, and received the Purple Heart.
Lary returned home to begin his career in education and to start a family. He married his wife, Eleanor, in
November of 1954. They eventually settled in East Hampton, and together they raised six children (two of their
sons, Mark and Jay, are members of CCAFO). In 1961, he became a member of CCAFO, and stayed on for 35
years. In 1984, he served as president of the board. Lary lost his courageous battle with cancer on October 5,
1997. He was buried at St. Patrick's Cemetery in East Hampton with full military honors. Those who knew Lary
attest to his generosity, and patience. dignity and concern for others, as well as his hearty laugh and sense of
